Between Quercy and Périgord: Dordogne and Lot

Our bed and breakfast inn sits between Quercy and Périgord, just on the border of Dordogne and Lot. The region is easy to like: just think of the natural beauty of its landscape, of the winding river Dordogne which flows between high steep rocks, the many woods, the causses swept by the wind, the corn fields: so many colours—the green of the leaves, the white and ochre of stones, the golden fields—which stand out against the blue sky.

Unique sites

But that’s not all: to all those who are not satisfied with admiring landscapes, history—and prehistory—left us some precious testimony. You like prehistory, its abysses, its caves, you will adore the Gouffre de Padirac and its underground river, Lascaux and its cave paintings, or Cougnac; if you are more medievalist, there are the Beynac or Castelnaud fortresses facing each other, and also the Fénelon’s castle, to name only a few among the most famous; you don’t particularly appreciate military solitudes, you prefer to wander through mysterious narrow streets, sometimes labyrinthine but always charming: Sarlat, Gourdon, Domme and other bastides are waiting for you!

…and a well-known gastronomy

Finally, let us tell you about the gastronomic reputation of Quercy and Périgord. Fresh strawberries, walnuts, truffles are a real delight. What to say then when they are prepared as a dessert or in an omelette, what to say about the foie gras, duck preserve, Sarlat potatoes accompanied by famous wines, both red and white, according to the meal, such as: bergerac, montravel, monbazillac, saussignac, pécharmant, without mentioning liquors like walnut, raspberry or peach wines.

Indeed, you will have to find a balance between peaceful contemplation, visiting sites and monuments, and still find time to enjoy fine food. We will do our best to advise you for the first two activities, and to make you discover the third one at our guest table.
